Carbon Monoxide-The Silent Killer

Raising awareness throughout Australia to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by Carbon Monoxide.

In memory of my children, Chase & Tyler Robinson, who were only 8 and 6 years old when they became victims to the Silent Killer in 2010. Chase & Tyler died due to a faulty gas heater in our rental property while they were sleeping.

Be aware, make sure you get your gas appliances regularly serviced and checked by a qualified gas fitter, and in the second line of defence, fit an audible Carbon Monoxide alarm. The alarms have proven to save lives, this is the only way you will know Carbon Monoxide is present...

Recognising the early symptoms of Carbon Monoxide poisoning will save your life. The symptoms of Carbon Monoxide poisoning are similar to the ‘flu’. They can include:

• Nausea
• Dizziness
• Tiredness
• Headaches
• Stomach pains
• Chest pains

If you experience these symptoms but feel better when you are outside or away from the appliance, you could be suffering from Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

"It’s called the silent killer. You can’t see it. You can’t smell it. It’s carbon monoxide and it can kill. Because it is an odourless gas, people will not know that it is present. Therefore, owners and tenants of properties with gas heaters must be aware of the possibility that carbon monoxide (CO) is present and that it is dangerous.

Support the campaign of new legislation changes for all properties
with gas heaters to be fitted with an audible carbon monoxide alarm along with yearly serviced gas appliances by a licensed or registered gas-fitter.

" Don't let something preventable kill you or your loved ones. "
